Leigh Judo club’s early years have laid the core foundations of an exciting and rewarding Olympic sport by teaching basic principles and judo technique based around key fundamentals and core values. However, with the Leigh Judo committee and volunteers hunger to continue the clubs success and development, a decision was made to help our members achieve more within judo by establishing a fun and supportive entry into an early stage competition and so the Leigh Judo Club Junior Competition was born.
The Leigh Judo Club Sports Awards are the most prestigious event in our calendar and celebrate the achievements of our talented members throughout the year. This year the awards took place on the Sunday 9th December following our Junior Christmas party and Senior club meal the night before.

This weekend, 7th Dan Black Belt and BJJ Black Belt Steve Gawthorpe, paid a visit to Leigh Judo Club to deliver a masterclass of judo to the eager talented members. British judo champion, world medalist and Olympian has had many achievements throughout his long career, including achieving 5th at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, European bronze in Liege and becoming World bronze medallist in Seoul.Continue reading Olympian Masterclass – Steve Gawthorpe
2014 Commonwealth Games judo champion Owen Livsey came to Leigh Judo Club on Sunday delivering a masterclass at our new home in Lowton. British Masters Champion John Hope delivered a masterclass with expert coaching and training to the club members at Leigh Judo Club this month. The award winning club has previously welcomed Olympian Sophie Cox and Commonwealth champion David Groom. It’s been a busy summer this year at LJC! In fact it’s the first ever time we have not closed the club for any period during the school summer holidays.
