Formed in the lasting legacy of the 2012 London Olympic games, our club is renowned for it’s friendly, welcoming atmosphere, expert coaching standards and supportive ethos. In our purpose build dojo, we aim to deliver the highest standard of judo providing opportunities for children young people and adults to receive coaching, grade and enter competitions.

As a registered British Judo Association club, we are fully insured and have fully qualified and experienced coaches who are committed to supporting you throughout your judo journey.

Developing all aspects of the sport as well as an individual, our expert coaching team are professional in their fields. Winners of prestigious coaching awards including Wigan Borough Coach of the Year and Special contribution to School Sport. Our club prides itself on delivering the very highest possible standard of holistic sports coaching.

Our history

The inspiration for Leigh Judo Club was formed following the sporting success of the 2012 London Olympic games. The aim of the club development was to bring judo to the heart of the Leigh community.

Our history

In the lasting legacy of the 2012 London Olympic games,Our first dojo was built inside a gym on West Bridgewater St, Leigh with the help of Sport England award funding. With a fully matted, purpose built mat area, the club quickly began to establish itself as the premier judo club in Leigh.

Our history

Within the first 12 months of opening, the club was nominated for Club of the year, with founder and head coach Luke Brown winning Wigan Borough Sports coach of the year. Board member changes saw new ideas, increased community engagement and the start of an unprecedented growth in participation.

Our history

With exponential growth the club quickly reached capacity and the search for our future home began. After a long process, a dilapidated and disused youth centre was identified as a suitable venue. Lead by our founder, we successfully completed the boroughs first ever Asset Transfer with Wigan Council. Work commenced building our purpose built dojo as well as other community amenities.

Our history

With capacity reached once again, the club developed detailed plans for the redevelopment of the centre into a state of the art community facility. With the support of Sport England via the Community Asset Fund, the grand vision and legacy of Leigh Judo Club slowly became a reality.

Our history

The tenacity of the club’s dedicated team with the support of Sport England ensured the plans would be delivered in the face of a worldwide pandemic of the coronavirus. Work commenced in spring following the principle commitment of Wigan Council.
